A Sad Song in Winter - (Poem by Simon Njoroge)

A Sad Song in Winter

On a swingy snowy branch
In the blazing winter debris
My feeble legs endured
The chilling cold defied
By warm nostalgic memories
That barely saw me through
Yet like a hurricane
Tore my frail body apart

In plotted exertion
My drooping misty eyes opened
For the chirp I could not mistake
An upshot of prior intimacy
How I longed to hear it again
Just like aback; by my side
The mates past me they flew
Bonded by the rhythmic flaps
That devoured my energy
Than the Winter had
As the icy sledge hammer smashed
My eyes slowly closed
A bunting, a sad song on a Winter day
